"We had the pleasure of meeting the guide dogs".
Volunteers from Guide Dogs UK visited our Belvedere Elderberries to give a talk about the work that they do. They started with the history; did you know the first guide dog school opened in 1916? They then went on to explain how the Guide dog is matched with the owner. A volunteer will go to the potential new owners house to take all details including their height (if they are tall, a larger dog is needed).
The guide dog will have to pass very strict training. For example, one of the dogs in training chased after a duck and was then taken out of training to become a guide dog.
The volunteers interacted with our Elderberries guests, they showed pass time pictures, answered questions and the dogs even showed us some of their training.
It was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
