On 16th September, we held our first Chris Bryant awards night to acknowledge the amazing work and support our Home Support staff give to their clients. Staff were greeted with a glass of "bubbly" and served a 'sit down meal'. As the night went on, each Home Support worker were individually called up to the front to receive a certificate presented to them by Mick, Ruth and Pete.
There were seven special awards Presented by Chris' wife Linda to those that had done ‘That Little Bit Extra’. We were sent in some amazing nominations from clients and their families, some were read out on the night.
But who is Chris Bryant?
Chris was one of our founding Trustees who captured the vision of Evergreen and had a heart and desire to improve the lives of our elderly community. He worked tirelessly in setting up the initial administration of Evergreen, headed up the training along with Diane, and loved to write the policies for the organisation. His dedication to Evergreen played a huge part in making our organisation the success it is today.
Working through all the challenges a charity like Evergreen face, Chris always kept his sense of humour and his raucous laugh was infectious. He was a very gentle person who cared for others deeply with his Christian faith at the centre of all he did.
It was with great sadness when we heard of Chris’ battle with a brain tumour, and although we all held onto the hope that he may come through the illness, it was not to be and he passed away in January 2022.
We are going to hold these awards annually and next year we will include our volunteers. This event is our way to honour Chris, whilst recognising our staff and volunteers for all they do for their clients.
Thank you Chris for everything, you are remembered fondly.
